Status: currently having a really bad migraine

Snow, winter vibes and cross-stitching

06/12/24, afternoon

It's been a while since the last update, mostly because my life has been relatively uneventful in the past few weeks. Right now, I'm bed-ridden with a really bad migraine, and since there isn't much I can do at the moment, I figured I might as well write a blog entry! I don't think I ever got into detail before on the blog, but migraines are a common occurance for me. It's a chronically illness, and unfortunately with where medicine is at at the moment, there isn't a solution for it. So all I can do really is accept that I'll likely get a couple of migraines a week for the rest of my life. I've come to tolerate them quite well, but some migraine attacks are worse than others, and today's is being particularly nasty. Usually when I have a migraine I can still attempt to draw or listen to a podcast, but today I had to spend the whole morning in bed doing nothing. Thankfully now the pain has gotten slightly better, and my vision isn't as blurry, so I can at least do some writing.

A snowy tree stump from my parents' backyard.

A couple of weeks back, we had the first snow of the winter. Although I live near the Alps, it snows somewhat rarely in my hometown, and when it does it seldomly stays for more than a day. So I was surprised to see snow in late November already, and even more surprised when it stayed on the ground for a couple of days.
I'm starting to really feel the winter atmosphere. That first day it snowed, me and my cousin went out for pizza with his parents, and we were definetly not prepared for how cold the night was. The two of us went to the pizzeria by foot, and we basically froze on our way there.
I've started to wear my gloves daily when going to class, and I'm stating to think I'll have to pull my beloved winter hat soon as well.
I have to admit, I'm not typically one to get into the Christams spirit, but this year I quite enjoyed putting up the decorations in my room and seeing the christams lights in town.
There is also a new Artfight seasonal prompt themed after winter right now, and although I was originally planning to take part just to get the archievement, I'm actually looking foward to working on it. I think I'm going to make a cozy illustartion of characters around a campfire, or something along those lines.

What my bag currently looks like.

In the past month I managed to keep myself busy with a great deal of DIY projects. I made a total of five new bottlecap pins, and attached most of them to my bag. I've also pulled out of my closet an old pair of jeans shorts that don't really fit me anymore, and I'm planning to cut them up into patches and cuffs. In particular, I've decided I'm going to make a squared patch out of them and stitch it to the center of my bag. I haven't settled on a design to paint on it yet, but I'll likely go for something related to crows, maybe with some song lyrics under it.

Working on the pattern on the floor of my room.

And I've finally started that cross-stitching project I had brought up in a previous blog entry! It's going to be a patch picturing the Enterprise (the starship from Star Trek)! It's my first time working with a design I made myself, and I discovered that making a cross-stitching pattern is very similar to making pixel art, so it wasn't as hard as I had anticipated. It's also my first time working on a Aida 7 canvas instead of my usual Aida 5.5, and the smaller size gave me a bit of trouble at first. My design is pretty big though (it's 120x40 stitches), so it would have been too large on the bigger 5.5 canvas.

All this DIY-ing has kept me busy in my spare time, so I haven't worked on the site much in the past few weeks. But it also got me thinking about possibly making a section of the site dedicated to DIYs and crafts. Like any good emo, DIYs are somehwat important to me. I'd like to post about the process and make tutorials, but I wouldn't have the time nor the equipment to record and edit full Youtube videos. Blog entires, however, are less time-consuming, so that could be a great way to share my DIY shenanigans. I already have a bunch of ideas for a possible DIY section on the site: patches overlayed on the background, yarn texture, safety pins holding the various sections up. Maybe an image of scissors or other tools set on "position: fixed" hovering in a corner. That font I downloaded that looks like poorly stamped letters for the title. A row of stitching as a divider....
Alright, I'm DEFINETLY making a DIY section.
